I (40) don’t know if I’m in the right place here, and to be honest, I’m not even sure what—or if—I’m looking for at all.

That is certainly a dilemma. I understand your urge. You're currently at a stand still in which you're not getting any. If you can ride the wave of fantasy, and satisfy yourself, then maybe there's no point in rocking the boat.
